Pass the Two-Part DMV Knowledge Test
Did you fail the Two-Part DMV Knowledge Test?
If you failed the DMV Knowledge Test, you are not alone! We see it a lot. That test is written on a 10th grade reading level which may be fine for some people but for others its a big challenge.
What happens if you fail the Knowledge Test?
If you are under 18 you must wait 15 days to retest. If you fail the test 3 times, DMV won't let you take it again until you take and pass the 30-hr Driver's Ed Classroom course or, if you already completed the Driver's Ed Classroom course before the third test failure, you will have to take the 8-hour Driver Manual course. Because you have to hold your Learner's Permit for 9 months to be eligible for a Driver's License, failing the test 3 times results in a delay of at least 1.5 to 2 months.
If you are 18 or older and trying to get your Learner's permit or renewing your Driver's License, there is a 15 day waiting period that can be waived with a $2 fee. You can only have 1 test attempt per day. If you fail the Knowledge test 3 times, then you must take either the 30-hr Driver's Ed Classroom course or the 8-hr Driver Manual Course.
Strategic Planning for the Knowledge Test
Prepare. The Knowledge Test is not an automatic pass. Straight-A students can, and do, fail it when they don't prepare. Read and study the Virginia Driver's Manual.
After the first failure you will know that you have to prepare. That's why there's a 15 day wait period so use the time to study. If you need help preparing for the Knowledge Test, we can do that. If you fail again, you have one more chance.
Get Help. We can help you prepare for the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd Knowledge Test attempt with our Test Prep Class. It will cover the VA Driver Manual content.
Invest in yourself. We cannot guarantee that you will pass the DMV Knowledge Test, but if you do fail 3 times, we will let you take our next scheduled Driver's Ed Classroom Course or Driver Manual Class course to reestablish testing eligibility with a $25 discount off our listed price.
